Dr. Seuss Characters

Instructional Plan Format

Activity Name: Dr. Seuss Characters

Domain Focus(main content area): Art


1.       Goals/Learning Objectives: Progresses in abilities to create drawings, paintings, models, and other art creations that are more detailed, creative, or realistic

2.       Materials Needed: Different colors of clay or model magic

3.       Procedures:
a.       Introduction:  Talk about how many different characters were in the book “There’s a Wocket in my Pocket”  and talk about how characters are created and how they are going to have a chance to create their own characters
b.      Main activity: Allow the children to play with the clay for a little while at first to allow for exploration. After they have had a chance to explore ask them to start deciding what their character is going to look like and allow them to get the colors their character is going to be. Have them form their characters and let them sit
c.       Closure:  Ask the students what their character is and to give the character a name. Allow them to share with other classmates
d.      Transition:  Have the students go find their picture and pick a center

4.       Suggestions for Simplification/Extension:
Have the students try to create a name that will rhyme with some places their character could be and create a story about it

5.       Assessment:  What method will you use to evaluate the objectives and child learning?
Observe the process and finished product to see if the child has created a character and see if they have used the material effectively


6.       Evaluation: 
a.       List of all children who participated in the activity, outcomes, modifications
b.      Evaluation of your teaching
